Wordless Wednesday - Nina K. Ellingwood's Dolls

Nina King Ellingwood was the daughter of Asa Freeman and Florilla (Dunham) Ellingwood. The pictures come from a cousin. Nina was known for her dolls, especially the animals she made with a wooden frame covered in a variety of fabrics to achieve a realistic look.

  1. Wow, they are amazing! You didn't mentioned what years Nina may have made them. Are they from the late 1800s or the early or mid-1900s? Did she make them for the pleasure of it or as gifts? Did children play with them? Was she involved with other crafts and sewing endeavors? She was a very creative woman. Thanks so much for sharing them with us.
